Zero waste grocery shopping

When we start living a life of zero waste one of the key things to undergo is zero waste grocery shopping, which can be a quite difficult thing to do at our local supermarket. But I am here to help you with a list of zero waste grocery stores in London.

1.Unpackaged, London

Unpackaged was founded in 2006 by Catherine Conway a social entrepreneur and sustainablity advocate in order to spread the zero waste retail movement. One of the missions of Unpackaged is; ‘ a world without unnecessary packaging, with resources preserved for future generation’. Unpackaged has also teamed up with Planet Organic in London, to help make zero waste more accessible across the city. Unpackaged has stores located in the following areas:

2. Bulk Market

Bulk Market started up on the 26th of August 2017 through the usage of an external finance called ‘crowd funding’, which means raising finance through the investments of individuals or organisations who invest or donate to different projects in return for a reward. The owner (Caldironi) of ‘Bulk Market’ has managed to source it’s 200 products from within a 50 mile radius, making sure it has a low carbon footprint, and Caldironi even produces some of the goods herself.

3. Hetu

Hetu (meaning ‘purpose’ in Hindi) was founded by Laura and established in September 2017, it is a vegan zero waste store, selling organic food, organic cleaning refills and plastic free personal care products. The store is aesthetically pleasing with a minimalistic yet stylish decor for a great shopping experience, helping us appreciate and be grateful for little moments which most find a ‘dreadful choir’.

4. Gather

Gather is an organic zero waste store trying to make sustainable living easier, selling goods from food to cleaning products to toiletries. Gather was opened by Tash and Laura in July 2019 through their passion of low-impact living.

5. BYO

BYO (bring your own) is a plastic free health shop encouraging healthy eating habits by adding ‘a pinch of something you’ve never heard of’ to your everyday meal. They sell everything from grains to sweets to oils, but you can check out their website to see it all for yourself.
